Pictish Pop Studios are now officially up & running & I’m delighted to say we recorded & mixed our new album with Rhythmnreel over lockdown & we are delighted with the results we have achieved…

The new album will contain 11 tracks, 8 songs & 3 instrumentals.. We chose some songs I wrote many years ago along with some new ones & our first single “Lonely Mountain Road” written by Josh MacKenzie will feature on the album as well as our December release, “The Dark Island’

We will release our new single & video “Holding Out For Freedom” on 25th June on the run up to the new album of the same title which will be released on Friday 16th July. We will also be launching the Album at The Ironworks in Inverness on Saturday 17th July.

New Album

Delighted to announce that my new album entitles “Life’s Just Fine” is due for release on Friday 8th May 2020.. This has been a work in progress and in the making since 2015… I recorded the songs on my own home studio and have enjoyed learning this whole crazy recording process as I’ve worked on these songs.

“Life’s Just Fine” has been 4 years in the making. It comprises of 10 self penned tracks & 1 cover (Bob Marley’s Redemption Songs) The music is poignant and reflective, with subject matter ranging from Love, loss & loneliness, homelessness & displacement, with tales of a haunted Highland Hotel and an old piano convalescing in an old Village Hall.

The songs are about everyday people and their situations. It touches on life’s trials & tribulations with more than a sprinkling of hope & belief in the Human spirit thrown in for good measure and given our current Pandemic and the lockdown it will hit home with a lot of people.

The new album will be available on CD as well as all the usual on-line streaming & download sites.

Due to thew ongoing Corona Virus outbreak, our album launch at Eden court Theatre which was planned for 28th April is now postponed.. We will however be doing an album launch Live on Facebook, date TBC soon

In the meantime please check out my new video for “The Piano” shot in a secret pub (The Stagger Inn) in the Scottish Highlands.

17th August 2019 News

It’s been a cracking Summer gigging around with myself & Sam… With our usual Highland Games & Summer Marquee bashes & of course, Belladrum Festival possibly the best one yet.. We had a Storming set with The StormChasers in the Grass Roots Tent on the Thursday evening… our first run out with the full band in about 3 years… Sams biggest gig so far.. It was nice to have Debbie Ross on board with het fiddle, a real trip down memory lane from The old Coinneach days.. and my eldest son Shaun on backing vocals & Tambourine.. like a Celtic Bez up there shaking it all about..

We’re also looking forward to The Storm Chasers opening the main stage at the final Loopallu festival in September & the most exciting news, we’re booked into Iain McLaughlins Imout studios in Inverness in November to record our first Storm Chasers Album..

My much awaited solo album is coming on great & is almost complete & I hope for a release before the end of this year.. so plenty of work ahead off me yet.. We will keep you posted & look forward to seeing you out there somewhere on the road..x

Happy New Year Folks!

Well with 2018 now a distant memory from the past it’s head on into 2019.. Lots of great things shaping up as well….

I’m delighted to be heading out to Austin Texas in March during SXSW.. I will be heading out there with fellow singer songwriter Dougie Burns from Inverness where we will be catching up and hanging with our friends, Texan Songstress Libby Koch & the Legendary Chuck Hawthorne who have invited us to guest at some of their shows whilst we're over there..

In August I’m chuffed to say we’ve been booked to play the Grass Roots stage at Belladrum Tartan Hearts festival again.. the stage where we launched The Working Man album back in 2013. This will be the 15th Belladrum Festival & I’ve been lucky enough to have played at every one of them bar the 1st one since its incarnation in 2004.. We will have a full Storm Chasers Line up for that one..

On the recording front I have been working tirelessly on the new material & hope to have something new ready for release very soon (watch this space)

In the meantime myself and Sam are busy with our usual gig schedule, keeping the wheels on the road & enjoying sharing the music with everyone. Will keep you posted via this website & Facebook as to whats happening throughout 2019 & look forward to seeing you out there on the road soon.

1st March 2017 - New EP "Rushes"

This is my new EP entitled "Rushes" which is due out on Martin Stephensons Barbaraville and Pictish Pop records on 1st May 2017. Here is a description of the 4 songs on the EP:

Track 1. Rushes - I Started writing this song during a tour of Germany back in 2016.. the idea for the song was born out of a touch of homesickness, which often comes at the end of a long tour.. with that sense of longing for family and loved ones back home.. I think it's a kind of universal love song which evokes the dark mystique and spirit of the Highlands and Islands, with the fresh Spring breezes rolling down from the Hills... Track 2. Tender Sleep - A reworking of this enchanting song from the Fragile People album back in 2005. This is a song that has matured and evolved through the mists of time like a fine Malt whisky... It's a song that I feel conjures up different thoughts and emotions every time I sing it... Track 3. Dream 2 B Free - This song was originally written back in 1996, I'd just moved into my own cottage after some trials and tribulations.. the kind that life throws at us from time to time.. I remember on one beautiful afternoon sitting having a couple of beers with the sun shining in through my blinds, enjoying a feeling of immense freedom and hope for the future. I never released it at the time and found a demo of the track back in January, I gave it a bit of a reworking, and here it is 21 years on. 4: Show Me The Way - another song from my debut album back in 2005.. This song has rarely been out of the set list since its inception all those years ago.. Last year I got about working in the studio with various drum loops and different sounds and put together a more electronic version of this track, one of my favorites from the past.. giving this song a new, refreshing and almost haunting twist. Rushes will be available on all the usual download sites: ITunes, Amazon and Spotify etc.. from 1sth May 2017. It will also be available as a limited edition CD, with 200 signed copies up for grabs. I'm dedicating this new EP to the memory of my best friend and musical brother Graeme Hosie AKA The Hosebeast who sadly passed away in October 2016.

27th September 2016 - Sam to join me on drums for Loopallu Festival

See you there folks..x

20th July 2016 - My son Sam to join me at Belladrum Festival

l am delighted to announce that my son Sam will be joining me on drums for 2 shows at the Belladrum Tartan Hearts festival this year.. 17th June 2015 New Album

I'm currently putting together a bunch of songs for a planned acoustic album..

The idea behind this recording is to select a group of tracks from my 3 previous solo album plus songs from the old Coinneach back catalogue which were all recorded with a full band set up at the time..

I would like to put together an album representing the best of these songs in a more acoustic setting, as you would hear when you come along to a solo show. I feel most of these songs have evolved over the years & it would be great to present them on a recorded format in this way.

I already have a working title for the album: "Songs From The Campfire"

I'll keep you posted on the progress. In the meantime, if anybody has any opinions on any song they would like to see on this album, please email me on contact@davycowan.com

All the best folks. Davy...x.

11th JUNE 2013 ALBUM LAUNCH AT BELLA

Delighted to confirm this years Tartan Hearts Festival at Belladrum will host the release of Davy’s third solo album. The new album entitled “Working Man‘s Dream” is produced by Martin Stephenson from “The Daintees” who’s influence is prevalent throughout this recording. With hints of 1977 New wave/ post punk tinged with Country, Folk/ Roots, there’s plenty of light & shade. Sometimes quite mellow & plaintive, sometimes more edgy & rugged. Like, The Cars meets The Clash with a twist of Springsteen meets Cash… Stephenson pushing Cowan all the way on his vocal delivery… digging deep, finding new directions, turning different corners….

Davy & his band look forward to performing on The Grass Roots stage Sat 3rd August in front of a home crowd & after last years rousing headline set at The Potting shed with his band “The Storm Chasers” this will be the ideal launch pad for the release of this new record.

6TH March 2013 Recording new album

Hi Folks… The recording for the new album is coming on a treat.. All the drums we’re recorded at The Tolbooth in Stirling in January by Kate Stephenson (drummer from Martin Stephenson & The Daintees) she did a fantastic job. Bass guitars have been completed by Neil Harland who has played with the likes of Joe Cocker, Katherine Jenkins & Martin Stephenson, all the guitars have been recorded & I’m in the process of working on the vocals at the moment. The album is been produced by Martin Stephenson who’s been in the recording studio environment since the 80’s & his input so far has been invaluable.

On the live front, dates for Germany coming in for April & a tour end of September into October. Please check the live dates page.

Also a couple of support slots with Martin Stephenson at The Brickyard in Carlisle & the Borderline London also on the bill my old pal Dave Sharp.

26th Aug 2010/ Davy Cowan & The Hose beast @ Loopallu

Armed with an acoustic guitar & travel drum kit with Budweiser box kick drum, Davy & his old Coinneach drummer buddy Graeme Hosie have gone back to their Roots to the music which inspired them to pick up instruments all those years ago.
The Punk & New Wave scene inspired a generation of people to pick up instruments and play regardless of ability or background, race or religion, class or creed.
At the time Punk sent out the message that music was there for everybody, whether it was thrashing out a noise in a garage with your mates or learning a couple of chords on the guitar for your own enjoyment, basically anyone could do it, the D.I.Y spirit took off and most people wanted to have a go!
